Indian drug regulator Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) may consider giving emergency authorisation to Pune-based Serum Institute to make its COVID-19 vaccine available for immunisation in India if the country of origin of the vaccine – UK – approves such a request made by its global license holder AstraZeneca for marketing approval of the Oxford University vaccine developed in the UK.

“We expect emergency authorisation for Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine to be sought in the UK. If so, it will give an opportunity for India regulator also (to consider such an option)”, Dr Vinod Paul, member Niti Aayog and chairman of the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for COVID-19, has said.

Speaking at a virtual panel discussion on “From vaccine to vaccination: Prevention of COVID-19”, on November 21, Dr Paul said the Serum Institute vaccine, undergoing final stage Phase III clinical trials in 16-17 cities in India is the closest in terms of market authorisation among five other vaccines that are undergoing various stages of clinical trials in India.

According to Dr Paul, if everything goes by the script, the Phase III clinical trials of Serum vaccine should be over by January/February 2021. An emergency authorisation before that would strengthen the possibility of the vaccine getting administered to the people in the priority list – frontline workers, senior citizens, people with comorbidity etc – early next year.

The second vaccine in Phase III clinical trials is the indigenous inactivated virus vaccine jointly developed by ICMR and Bharat Biotech. The third is a DNA COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Zydus Cadilla. The Sputnik V vaccine, the Russian vaccine to be marketed by Dr. Reddy’s, and indigenously developed vaccine using MIT platform by Biological E are the other promising COVID-19 vaccines that are being tested in India, Dr Paul said.

On vaccine distribution plans, Dr Paul said the government has the strategy in place and specifics are being worked out in association with the state governments. The government will also make extensive use of its digital platform which will incorporate the list of beneficiaries; send out messages informing them the time and location of vaccination to the beneficiaries, and issue digital certifications based on QR codes. Retired medical practitioners, medical and paramedical students etc may all be roped in to augment the human resource needed to carry out mass vaccination.

Ways to treat skin allergy by natural ways | Skin allergies

Skin allergy symptoms like redness, itching, and swelling often go away on their own in a week or two, with or without treatment.

You can do some things to make it more comfortable in the meantime.

Avoid contact:

It might sound obvious, but it’s worth a reminder. You can’t use or touch what triggers your allergy.

Chill out:

A cool compress or shower can help calm a fiery rash. Gently pat dry and then moisturize.

Soak it:

Colloidal oatmeal is oatmeal ground to a powder, so it mixes well with water. It can calm inflamed skin for some people. But other folks can have reactions to it. To try it, use lukewarm water. If it’s too hot, it can irritate and dry your skin.

Add anti-itch cream:

Over-the-counter hydrocortisone or calamine lotion may relieve itching.

Go baggy:

Don’t wear tight clothes. They can irritate your rash. Play it loose and cool with breathable fabrics like cotton.

For severe symptoms, try a damp dressing:

First find a soft cotton piece of clothing, like a long-sleeve T-shirt or long underwear. Soak it in water, wring it out, and then put it on. Wear something over it that’s snug, but not too tight.

If you have a skin problem that doesn’t go away on its own, always get it checked out by a doctor — even if it gets a little better from a home treatment. It could be a sign of a serious medical condition.

How to increase HDL cholesterol – Food, Exercises, Daily routine, HDL cholesterol is the kind of cholesterol you want more of.

It’s called the “good” cholesterol because it helps protect you from getting heart disease.

HDL cholesterol brings cholesterol to your liver, which sends it out of your body. So you want as much HDL as possible.

You can get a blood test to check your cholesterol level. If you’re a man and your HDL level is below 40, or a woman with an HDL level lower than 50, you’re more likely to get heart disease. Having an HDL level of at least 60 may help protect you from getting heart disease.

Of course, other things — eating a healthy diet, like not smoking, being active, and staying at a healthy weight — also matter for your heart’s health. Many of those things also affect your HDL level.

Following are 5 Ways to Raise Your HDL Cholesterol:

Some diet and lifestyle changes help boost HDL cholesterol levels:

Physical Activity: Physical activity can boost your HDL level. Get at least 30 minutes a day of moderate activity, most days of the week.

Lose some extra weight: If you’re overweight, losing extra pounds can help raise your HDL levels, as well as cut your LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels.

Some good fat options: The healthier choices are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. You’ll find these in plants, nuts, and fish like salmon or tuna. And, like everything you eat, keep your portion sizes small. Fats pack a lot of calories in small amounts.

Use alcohol in moderation:  Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol is linked to higher HDL levels. If you don’t drink now, check with your doctor before you start, since alcohol has some risks not related to cholesterol.
Stop smoking. Kicking the cigarette habit can raise your HDL level.

LDL and HDL Cholestrol – Which one is bad and which one is Good

What is low-density lipoprotein (LDL)?

  • You may find it strange that low density lipoproteins are called bad cholesterol when we always hear how we should reduce our cholesterol. However, LDL is “bad” because of what it does.
  • LDL can build on the walls of your arteries and make them narrower. Fatty deposits form plaque that lines your arteries and can cause blockages. This build-up is called atherosclerosis.
  • Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood away from your heart to all other organs of the body. Fats associated with LDL cholesterol levels and which you should minimize in your diet are called saturated fats and trans fats. Saturated fats are solid or wax-like when they are at room temperature.
  • You get saturated fat from most products that come from animals, such as meat, milk, cheese, and butter. Trans fats result when liquid fats solidify through the hydrogenation process. Trans fats are found in fast foods and fried foods and are used to increase the shelf life of processed foods such as cookies, crackers and bakeries.

What is high-density lipoprotein (HDL)?

  • HDL is called “good cholesterol”. This is good because it eliminates other types of cholesterol. (Including LDL), away from the arteries. It may help to think of LDL as a delivery truck, thinking of LDL as a DD truck.
  • HDL reduces other types of cholesterol on the liver and they are removed from the body. It is believed that high levels of HDL reduce the risk of heart disease.

LONG-TERM HEALTH EFFECTS OF COVID-19

Since COVID-19 was  discovered only a few months ago, its having long-term effects and they are unknown, and while researchers are trying to have look at parallels with two other possible corona viruses, SARS and MERS-CoV, it will take some time to have a full picture of the longer term consequences of COVID-19.

COVID-19 can cause a variety of symptoms of varying severity in different types of people. Some might be asymptomatic or have mild or less severe symptoms, while others are sick enough to need hospitalization, supplementary oxygen and use of a ventilator’s. Broadly, as a respiratory virus, Corona causes fatigue, breathlessness and muscle ache. As this pandemic has evolved and  clinical case histories have accumulated, a new symptom have began to emerge ie. the partial or total loss of taste and smell. This in itself is not unusual for a respiratory viral infection, but what was unique is that people had this symptom without any of the other usual symptoms of infection.

It is now clear that corona virus does not attack only the respiratory system, but some people have reported intestinal problems and other problems with their kidneys. Severe COVID-19 patients have experienced  problem called ‘cytokine storm’, in which the body’s immune system goes into a potentially fatal overdrive and leads to multi-organ failure. It has also been seen with influenza, SARS and Mars-Cove.

LONG-LASTING HEALTH EFFECTS OF SARS

Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), a corona virus that emerged in 2003, produces symptoms similar to COVID-19. With COVID-19, people over the age of 60 are at highest risk of severe symptoms.

A study of the long-term effects of SARS conducted in Hong Kong showed that two years after having the disease, the exercise capacity and health status of one of the two survivors of SARS was worse than those who had never had the disease. Did not happen. Only 78% of SARS patients were able to return to full-time work 1 year after infection.

Another study conducted in Hong Kong also showed that 40% of people recovering from SARS still had symptoms of chronic fatigue 3.5 years after being diagnosed. Viral infections such as SARS and Epstein-Barr virus are known to trigger chronic fatigue syndrome that may last for months or years.

THE LONG-TERM OUTLOOK FOR COVID-19

An important feature of COVID-19 is how long symptoms can last. Early in the epidemic, initial medical advice on recovery time for mild COVID-19 suggested 1-2 weeks. However, many people have seen symptoms for 8 to 10 weeks or longer, and the symptoms may only seem to go away in order to get back to racing. A research group from King’s College London, UK, has developed a COVID-19 tracker app for people to record their symptoms, and it is estimated that the tracker showed 200,000 symptoms for the entire six weeks since launch Are giving

Many had a pattern of symptoms, where their symptoms initially increased, almost disappeared, then returned again with speed, with very detailed symptoms.

An important question is what is causing the recurring symptoms – ie is it a persistent infection, reactivation (which seems unlikely based on current data), or whether the person is infected with another virus or even bacteria Done as is their immune system is still recovering.

Given the multi-organ effect of COVID-19 on the body, survivors may have a variety of long-term effects on their organs, including what some doctors call post-Covid lung disease. By looking at the organs affected during an infection, it can be estimated where the long-term effects on the body are likely to appear.

As we are still in the throes of the epidemic, and at a relatively early stage of a new disease, it is too early to tell what COVID-19 survivors are likely to experience in a year’s time.

However, some researchers are concerned that, along with SARS, many people with the new corona virus will develop post-viral chronic fatigue syndrome.

The future uncertainty for COVID-19 survivors is due to the fact that many long-term co-studies (studying genetic and environmental factors in large groups over a period of time) were reconstructed to study the physical, mental, and socio-economic consequences has gone. Ubiquitous epidemic.

Benefits of using lemon on face, Hairs – Possible Side effects and more

As a rich source of vitamin C and citric acid, lemon is known for its detoxifying effect, especially when you add some freshly cut wedges to your drinking water. Due to the health benefits of eating lemons, there is a growing popularity of using lemons as a natural remedy for skin conditions such as age spots and acne.

However, using lemons on your face can also cause more damage to your skin than any good. Here, we discuss the possible risks and benefits of lemon juice on the skin.

Possible benefits of using lemon on your skin

The perceived benefits of using lemon on your skin are the natural acidity of this citrus fruit as well as its vitamin C content. Lemons are sometimes used:

Acne treatment

Lemon juice has astringent qualities due to its acidic level. Ingredients with a higher pH level such as lemon can help reduce inflammation and oils that may contribute to acne formation.

Moreover, citric acid, a type of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), can help break down dead skin cells that lead to non-inflammatory forms of acne like blackheads.

Antimicrobial effects

Lemon also has an antimicrobial effect, which may help to remove Propiobacterium acne bacteria that cause inflammatory acne.

At the same time, lemon also has an antifungal effect, which can help treat Candida rashes as well as scalp fungi that sometimes accompany seborrheic dermatitis.Skin or hair lightening

Citrus ingredients such as lemon can also work well on your facial hair along with marks of age spots or acne.

Psoriasis and dandruff treatment

Since lemon juice can relieve dead skin cells, the theory is that it can also reduce the skin patches responsible for psoriasis and dandruff. The slow-down effect is attributed to the lemon’s natural level of citric acid, as AHA has an extreme effect on the skin.

Increased collagen

Some proponents of using lemon on the skin say that citrus fruit is a natural method of increasing collagen in your face. Collagen itself is a protein that naturally breaks down with age, which can result in fine lines and wrinkles. As an antioxidant, vitamin C can help prevent free radicals that can damage collagen, leaving you with smoother skin.

Side effects of and precautions for using lemon on your face

Lemon has more side effects than benefits for the skin, making it a risky DIY option for home skin care. If your skin is sensitive or you put your face out in the sun after applying lemon, the risk may be even greater.

Skin irritation

Skin irritation is the most common side effect from using fruit acids. Lemon is extremely acidic, which can irritate your skin. You may experience excessive dryness, redness and peeling of your skin. If you have sensitive skin, these effects can be worse. As a rule of thumb, people with sensitive skin should stay away from topical lemon applications.

Phytophotodermatitis

Phytophotodermatitis is a skin reaction to citrus fruits as well as other culprits such as parsley, celery and carrot plants. When there are sour substances on your skin and your skin is then exposed to UV rays, an inflammatory reaction can occur. This can result in symptoms such as redness, swelling, and blister.

Leukoderma

Leucoderma, also known as vitiligo, occurs when your skin is lightened due to the loss of melanin, the substance responsible for creating your natural skin complexion. While some people use lemons to lighten dark spots on the skin, larger, wider white leucoderma spots may develop instead.

Sunburn

Citrus fruits that are planted on top can also increase your risk of sunburn. Never apply lemon before going out under direct sunlight and do not use it for several days before any planned outdoor activities.

India will have approved COVID 19 vaccine in early 2021

Vaccine Progress:

India is on course to have an “approved” vaccine within the first quarter of calendar year 2021 and Pune- based Serum Institute of India (SII), the world’s largest vaccine manufacturer by volume, is well placed to deliver the first vaccine, according to a report out on Thursday from Bernstein Research, a top Wall Street research and brokerage firm.

“Globally, there are four candidates that are close to an approval by the end of the CY2020 or early 2021. Through partnerships India has access to two of those – AZ/Oxford’s viral vector vaccine and Novavax’s protein sub-unit vaccine with AZ/Oxford’s vaccine ahead by a quarter,” says the Bernstein report, which IANS has reviewed.

“With their existing capabilities and capacities SII is best positioned to commercialise one or both of the partnered vaccine candidates depending on approval timing, capacities and pricing.”

Details:

Data from Phase 1 and Phase trials look promising for both these candidates “in terms of safety and the vaccines ability to elicit an immune response”. The way things look now, the report indicates that both vaccine candidates “will require two doses to be administered 21/28 days apart”.

The report strikes an upbeat tone on India’s “global capacity equation” and does not foresee “manufacturing scale up challenges”.
Serum Institute of India, the report says, could supply 600 million doses in 2021 and 1 billion doses in 2022, out of which 400 to 500 million “should be available in India in 2021” in the context of the company’s commitments to Gavi The Vaccine Alliance and lower and middle income markets.
The report estimates that vaccine volumes will be split 55:45 between the government and private market.

Who will have access to vaccine ?

“We believe the government channel will have first access to the capacities but also believe there will be a sizable private market. In terms of funding, manpower and delivery infrastructure the Government will struggle to shoulder the burden on its own and we expect the private market to step in and supplement.”

Costing:

SII has announced that Gavi will procure vaccines at $3 per dose. The Bernstein report uses that as a benchmark to estimate procurement price to be around $3 a dose for the government and end consumer price of about $6 per dose. Apart from SII, the report lists at least three other Indian pharma companies – Zydus, Bharat Biotech and Biological E – which are working on their own vaccine candidates and are currently in Phase 1 and 2.

Between SII, Bharat Biotech, Biological E, and some smaller players, India produces around 2.3 billion doses of various vaccines every year.
SII alone is the globally largest manufacturer of vaccines with 1.5 billion doses capacity. Every two out of three children globally gets a shot manufactured by SII. In early August, SII entered into a partnership with Gavi, The Vaccine Alliance and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to accelerate the manufacture and delivery of up to 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines for India and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Atmanirbhar bharat role in vaccine:

If you read the news carefully, they are talking about mass production and supply in 2022. Indians be prepared for being Atma-Nirbhar until then

The collaboration pumps upfront capital to SII to help them increase manufacturing capacity now so that, once a vaccine, or vaccines, gains regulatory approval and WHO prequalification, doses can be produced at scale for distribution to India and lower and middle income nations as quickly as the first half of 2021.

The overall vaccine market in India is estimated at “$6 billion spread over FY 21-22”, according to Bernstein.
